Britons have been urged to turn to kitchen contents insurance, with a new report detailing how much we are spending on giving our homes the authentic cafe culture touch.
A study by Churchill Home Insurance shows that the average UK household admits to spending £3,113 on its kitchen, with the rising price of complex electrical appliances especially bumping up the costs.
The research reveals that popcorn makers, food processors and pasta making devices are adding to the everyday expenses of washing machines, freezers and microwaves to ensure that the British kitchen typically holds a total of £1,539 worth of electrical goods.
Tempting new variations on basic manual equipment also exert a toll, with the average home now storing £486 worth of kitchen utensils due to the popularity of items such as olive oil decanters and citrus fruit juicers.
'The research shows that the kitchen is full of expensive electrical equipment and accessories so it is imperative that house-holders make sure they are covered against any accidental damage,' said Martin Scott, head of Churchill Home Insurance.
'Otherwise, it's easy to see how an everyday accident could make a real dent in the household finances.'
