Communities will be able to express their opinions on how crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled, thanks to a new government plan.
The National Community Safety Plan (NCSP) will help communities to inform police and local authorities of any trouble spots in their towns or cities
The scheme hopes to reduce overall crime levels by 15 per cent by 2007 to 2008, bring more offences to court, increase the visibility of the police and tackle serious organised crime.
'The National Community Safety Plan signals the start of much closer working by joining up public services at the centre and locally,' explained home office minister Hazel Blears.
'Effective partnership working is the only way to improve the safety of our communities,' she added.
If you live in an area of high crime rates, this could not only impact on your health and mental frame of mind, but could also have financial implications.
Home insurance premiums tend to be higher in areas that experience increased criminal activity.
By taking part in this new scheme and reducing crime, you will not only have safer streets but could also have more money in the bank, saving money on your car and home insurance.
