Insurance experts are warning homeowners to ensure they are covered by their home insurance policies on fireworks night.
The Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) is urging Brits to check their cover, even if they are planning a small display in the garden, because of the potential damage that fireworks can cause.
Gideon Ingham, head of insurance products, CIS, said: 'It's surprising how many people decide to have a bonfire or fireworks party in their garden without giving any thought to the possible consequences if things go wrong.
'Even if you are just having a few friends round you should ensure your household insurance covers you against injuring someone, or causing damage to a neighbour's property.'
In the event of an accident, or damage to property, the public liability section of household contents policies can cover against claims.
The CIS adds that people should be extra careful when handling fireworks, to enjoy a safe evening.
