Brits who choose to work from home rather than commuting into the office spend an average of £100 per year on their home offices, finds a new report.
According to Standard Life Bank, staying at home is costing the nation a collective £149 million per year in office costs.
When buying expensive items such as laptops and printers for a home office, it is important to consider the extra value in home insurance policies.
Home insurance will replace the cost of equipment in case of weather-related damage such as flooding, or in instances of burglary or fire.
Scottish homeworkers were found to be the most diligent employees, with one in 20 spending £2,000 in maintaining a work place at home.
Furthermore, this trend is set continue. 69 per cent of Brits say they plan to invest more in the future as they spend increasing amounts of time working from home and more than half of those questioned believe that home is becoming the new office.
'With eight million Brits working from home and a further two million spending at least one day a week there, the shape and structure of our homes are changing inexorably,' said Ashley Ramsay, Standard Life Bank marketing manager.
'The house is set to become the focus of our corporate, career and creative energies and as a result we're seeing more people spending money on their home offices.'
