Home owners are once again being reminded of the cost of stolen garden and other outdoor objects. As the warmer weather increases and more people spend time in their gardens, so do the incidents of theft for anything from garden furniture to tools to fountains and other outdoor fixtures. It is advisable that home contents policies should be upgraded to include any expensive items that are routinely stored or left outside the home.
As well as insuring tools, bikes and other possessions in garden sheds and outbuildings, homeowners need to be reminded that leaving furniture outside during the summer months can result in burglaries and vandalism.
It is not just the cost of the garden hardware that can run into thousands of £££’s but also expensive landscaping that includes plants, shrubs and trees. Thieves are not averse to digging up recently laid turf and anything else that can be resold to other gardeners who may be looking for a bargain.
And if that is not enough to worry about, anyone that likes to include sporting activities outside should also consider the cost of theft and the replacement of equipment such as trampolines and basketball nets.
According to recent research more than 20 per cent of home owners have outdoor equipment/items that they would consider as valuable and more than 10 per cent of people regularly store expensive sports equipment outside.
