Those little white headphones that signify someone is using an iPod could mark the wearer out as a target for thieves, according to a new report.
Lloyds TSB Insurance has revealed that over a quarter of people carry around with them £200 worth of belongings, with young people most in fear of theft, because they own the most valuables.
Two in five people aged between 16-24 said that they were uneasy on the streets, and a third of 24-34 year-olds also said they were anxious about becoming victims of a robbery.
The survey reminds Brits that taking out extended home insurance cover is a good idea.
In the event of theft, with extended cover, victims will be able to claim for their stolen possessions on their home insurance, not leaving them with costly replacement bills.
Phil Loney, managing director, Lloyds TSB Insurance, advised: 'Unfortunately crime is a fact of life, but there are basic precautions people can take.'
'It is vital that anyone carrying valuables outside checks that they have extended home contents insurance, to cover them in case something does happen.'
The report also revealed that Londoners felt the most vulnerable, with 33 per cent worried about being mugged or robbed.
