New furniture for new homes

Around half of UK consumers who have moved home in the last year claim that that most of their furnishings are new, says a new report.

The Post Office's poll identifies today's population as a nation of 'nest-builders' with only six per cent of those who moved saying they settled for hand-me-downs.

Compared with the 1980's when only one in five bought new furniture for their home, the survey reveals a departure with the custom of second hand interior design.

Gary Fitton, head of Post Office credit card, said: 'Our survey shows that when people say they have a new home, they mean this literally both inside and out.'

If you are kitting out your new home with luxurious new furnishings, it is important you properly take care of them by purchasing adequate home contents insurance.

Home contents insurance means that if an accident or burglary should happen, your home insurance will cover the cost of repairing or replacing the items.
