Brits are being warned that with all of the hi-tech gadgetry increasingly found in homes, the value of contents is significantly underestimated.
Items such as iPods, digital cameras, laptops and MP3 players can really boost the cost of replacing house contents in the event of a robbery, and homeowners are advised not to underinsure themselves and take these gadgets into account when taking out home insurance.
With the value of contents only set to rise as technology develops, esure.com's report highlights the need for adequate and up to date home insurance.
'The danger is for homeowners to overlook these items when estimating the value of their contents - which could leave them under-insured and vulnerable if a burglar does strike,' said Nikki Sellers, head of home insurance at esure.com.
Over 60's are the most at risk from underestimating their belongings, as the value of the contents in a pensioner household is expected to rise by 400 per cent in the next ten years and with the likelihood of being burgled one in 24, taking out adequate home contents insurance is a priority.
