Households will acquire £600 of additional Christmas presents this year, according to a new report, although not all of them will be wanted!
Cornhill Direct's poll revealed that Brits are rather sneaky when it comes to giving and receiving gifts.
Almost one in three has admitted to trying to take unwanted gifts back to the shop for a refund.
At the other side of the scale, half of consumers polled said they couldn't bear to part with the gifts they had bought for others, and kept them for themselves!
But whether you keep gifts or take them back to the shops, UK homes will end up with their contents worth more after Christmas than before.
Cornhill Direct points out that with homeowners expected to spend around £14.7 billion on gifts for friends and loved ones this festive season, it is imperative that households increase the contents level on their home insurance policies.
'Over time, people can lose track of just how much the value of the contents in their home has increased so perhaps a 'must do' in the New Year is to check with their insurers that they are adequately covered,' said Cornhill Direct's operational underwriting manager, Ian Firth.
