UK residents have been reminded of the importance of home insurance policies in the days before the new year.
With millions of people expected to be hosting New Year's Eve parties nationwide, a home insurance policy could be vital in protecting you against accidental damage.
Research by Barclays Insurance Services found that almost 20 per cent of homeowners have had to replace glasses after new year celebrations, with just under one in ten reporting significant damage to furniture or curtains.
Adrian Grace, managing director of Barclays Insurance Services, has revealed that most UK residents forget to extend existing home insurance policies to include expensive Christmas presents.
"By double checking exactly what their home insurance covers them for and updating their contents insurance with any major gifts such as TVs, ornaments or jewellery, party hosts can relax and have a good time," he said.
The survey also revealed that people will spend an average of £197.82 on hosting their New Year's Eve parties, with a further £78.80 required for clearing up the next day.
