Following yesterday's bombings in London, the ABI (Association of British Insurers) has confirmed that insurance companies will deal with any subsequent claims as quickly and compassionately as possible.
Calling the events "shocking", the association stressed that the entire industry was committed to doing the "best possible job" over the next few days and weeks.
Stephen Haddrill, director general of the ABI, said that there was much uncertainty regarding the extent of the damage.
"We are not yet in a position to estimate the scale of damage to property and the human loss. Many policies provide terrorism cover," he said.
"Anyone affected should check their policy and contact their insurance company or broker."
ABI added that for customers with household insurance, buildings and contents policies usually cover damage caused by explosion, fire or impact as a result of terrorism.
However the association also cautioned that nuclear, chemical or biological attacks are not normally covered and therefore both consumers and businesses should check the exact details of their policies.
