Insurer Axa is warning British homeowners to take care of their properties before the big freeze sets in this year.
With the Met Office warning that this year looks set to be one of the worst winters on record, Axa says that homeowners could make a few simple preparations to limit damage the cold causes to houses.
Burst pipes and the breakdown of heating systems pose the biggest problems to homeowners and businesses during the winter period. It can lead to water damage to property possessions, which can be costly to repair.
Doug Barnett, risk control strategy manager for Axa Insurance, reiterated: 'A few simple precautions can save a lot of time, money and heart-ache in the long run.'
Home insurance cover is essential for your property in the winter months.
It is important that homeowners take out both buildings and contents cover, one to protect personal belongings and the other to take care of the building itself.
