Home insurance claims can include all sorts of calamities but pensioner Pamela Mackie probably set a new precedent when she realised that a badger had broken into her house.
It is thought that the badger had climbed through a cat flap into her Swindon home and then smashed a window as it tried to escape.
Neighbours were alerted to the sound of breaking glass and called the police, the BBC reports.
Proving the need for home insurance that covers any eventuality, the badger had also made its way to a bedroom, where Mrs Mackie was too frightened to enter.
"Once there, it tried to jump through the window, causing the window to smash, and injuring itself," said a police officer.
Officers found the badger lying dazed and distressed in a corner of the room before it was taken to Swindon and District Animal Haven for treatment.
Accidental damage can occur to homes from the most unlikely of incidents. As in the case of 78-year-old Pamela Mackie, it is important that homeowners keep their building and contents insurance up to date.
