British men have been urged to review their home insurance policies, after a new survey shows that many of the most important household possessions are constantly on the move.
Figures released by specialist insurer Hiscox show that the average UK male carries as much as £1,000 in possessions, largely uncovered by current insurance policies.
The increased popularity of gadgets including expensive mobile phones, cameras, i-Pods and Blackberrys means that British men represent a walking repository of valuables – and the result has been a rise in the number of claims relating to lost and stolen bags
The experts add that the growing fashion for 'man-bags' in place of more traditional briefcases or simply putting goods in pockets has given an added boost to thieves.
'If you're fed up of your pockets being stuffed full of all the latest gadgetry and are one of a growing tribe of men carrying a 'man-bag' instead, you need to look at the small print of your insurance policy,' said Kevin Kerridge of Hiscox.
Many home insurance packages now cover products taken out of the household, on an 'all-risks worldwide basis'.
