Household security is the biggest concern for people buying a new home, a survey has revealed.
Research for The Homebuyer Show states that eight out of nine buyers think good security is an area worth prioritising over number of rooms or price.
Indeed, the issue impacts on how people see the whole area, with the chances of avoiding a break-in rated as more important than the quality of local schools.
Nick Clark, managing director of The Homebuyer Show said the figures confirmed that 'safety in the home has become a major issue for the British public'.
He added: 'The most effective step to take would be to get a state of the art security system fitted. However, ensuring your door has an approved mortice deadlock, windows are double glazed, and even adding motion sensitive lights to the outside of your house can be just as effective in deterring potential burglars.'
The least important factors in a new house, according to buyers, are internal decor and provision for modern gadgets.
