Having warned homeowners about the potential threat to their properties from damage caused during the Halloween activities, insurers are issuing further warnings to homeowners who could see a rise in theft and vandalism during the next Bonfire night.
It is estimated that almost 10% of homes in the UK have at one time or another, had damage to their property. It is estimated that during Halloween four out of ten households will not have secured their property correctly and one in twenty will have invited trick or treaters into their homes.
It is expected that incidents of theft and burglary would increase during the week following the clocks changing and that the worst night of the year for burglaries would be Bonfire night.
As the clocks go back the nights become longer and on an average, police forces across the UK notice a rise in house burglaries of more than 25% compared to the average across the rest of the year. The rise in burglaries during Bonfire Night is 28%.
