uSwitch.com figures reveal that almost a third of consumers feel their household energy costs have reached unaffordable levels. Many consumers say that the cost of being unable to heat their home has become their main financial concern. This concern tops the worry over the rising cost of food and being unable to make their mortgage payments. The price increases imposed on customers during 2011 affected 6.9million households.
Scottish Power one of the UK’s leading energy companies has announced a reduction in its prices. According to Scottish Power, their customers will receive lower gas bills from February and that the 1.4million users of their energy supply will see a reduction of about 5% on their monthly debits.
E.On has also announced that they will be reducing their customers’ electricity bills by 6% towards the end of February, the price of gas will not reduce.
Research from Citizens Advice has shown that four out of 10 people are worried that they cannot afford their next energy bill.
