People buying property are most likely to be influenced by the security features of a home than any other factor says a new report.
A recent poll by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) revealed that across different groups of people, security averaged out as the most desired feature in a home.
Improved security, as well as keeping residents and their belongings safe, can also help to lower home insurance premiums.
Features such as home alarms and CCTV can sometimes be taken into consideration when calculating a home insurance premium.
However, the emphasis which homeowners placed on security depended on their age and living circumstances.
For example, 79 per cent of single women rates security as the most important factor in buying a house and in contrast, single men didn't rate it at all.
Over half of divorcees placed security at their top of their wish list, while two parent families placed it third, with 37 per cent.
