The average British household will spend £344.88 on Christmas presents this year, according to a new report.
In addition to this, British households will spend an average of £150.75 on entertaining at home during the festive period.
According to Portman Building Society, the home is at the heart of most family's Christmas and many have a very traditional view of the period.
Around 78 per cent of those polled said they would be spending Christmas this year with family and half would stay at home for the big day.
Just under half of Brits said they were looking forward to spending time with their family, while a fifth claimed to love giving presents.
With the home such an important part of Xmas, it is important you protect it with home insurance.
If presents are lost or stolen, or if there was an accident at home, such as a fire, your home insurance will cover the damage.
Helen Shaw, group communications manager for Portman Building Society commented: 'Christmas is still overwhelmingly a time for families and despite the availability of cheap flights abroad, most still choose to remain close to home.'
