Reforming housing regulations, increasing housing investment and reinforcing the sector's independence should be the National Housing Federation's main issues.
This is according to the federation's Members Survey 2005, with these three subjects chosen more than others when members were asked to give their two or three preferred issues that should form the federation's long-term business planning.
Other priorities with significant support were raising the sector's profile and shaping the future of supported and sheltered housing.
Commenting on the results, David Orr, chief executive, National Housing Federation, said: 'The federation aims to create the environment where housing associations can thrive, adding value to our members and their focus on high quality customer care.
'We will continue working for reductions in burdensome regulation, more resources to match the scale of the task and a greater respect for our independence based upon the sector's values and ability to deliver.'
The National Housing Federation represents 1,400 independent, not-for-profit housing associations in England and promotes the establishment of affordable housing. Its members provide over two million homes for four million people.
Residents of these homes will certainly need home insurance to avoid becoming homeless if anything happens to their house. There are many cheap and affordable home insurance quotes available online.
