Many insurers will be cutting their Christmas home insurance offers in the next few weeks, according to the Halifax.
As the value of many people's possessions increases during the Christmas period, a number of home insurance companies offer extra or unlimited cover to help with the cost of an unfortunate household robbery over the festive break.
However, Halifax home insurance said that many insurers will be cutting their offers from mid-January. As a result, many people will find their new possessions are uninsured without an extension, while others could end up with a penalty if they have underestimated the contents value of their home.
'Householders should check their insurance policy documents to ensure they are not underinsured following Christmas,' said Vicky Emmot, senior underwriter for Halifax home insurance.
'Although some insurers will increase contents cover over Christmas this still leaves the problem of re-evaluating your contents in the New Year. It's vital for people without unlimited cover to remember to update their insurer with any changes to their contents value'.
She added that Halifax home insurance can provide unlimited home contents cover, although it puts limits on cover for high risk items.
