Leeds is the town in England and Wales where homeowners are most at risk of being burgled, according to Halifax Home Insurance.
People dwelling in the northern city made the highest number of claims on home insurance policies.
Doncaster and Wakefield and Huddersfield came second and third in the poll, suggesting that northern homeowners should take extra care in protecting their homes and take out adequate home insurance cover.
The research has been commissioned by Halifax Home Insurance to demonstrate the risk of not having insurance cover for the home and ensuring that people aren't left in financial difficulty after a burglary.
According to the insurer, the winter months are when homes are most susceptible to robbery, as claims for burglaries increase by up to 16 per cent during the winter period, and claim volume increases by around 12 per cent above average.
'Our claims data shows a strong seasonal pattern with above average claim volumes for theft from October through to March,' saidVicky Emmott, senior underwriting manager at Halifax Home Insurance.
'It's important to take time out to check your home security before the nights start to draw in,' she advised.
