New research has shown that although Brits have the reputation of being distant and uninvolved with neighbours, the reality is much different.
Nearly all of the survey's respondents, (97 per cent), said they keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour around property when their neighbour is on holiday.
Around three quarters of people said they'd call the police if they saw any suspicious behaviour, and a quarter said they would actually intervene to prevent crime.
When going on holiday, it is important that your home insurance is up to date, so that if there was a robbery while you were abroad, the cost of replacing belongings would be covered.
Adrian Grace, managing director of Barclays Insurance Services comments: 'We would, however, encourage people to put aside that British reserve and let their neighbours know if they are going away so that they might be aware of any unknown visitors, and of course you should also make sure you have adequate insurance cover in case the worst should happen whilst you're away.'
