Burglars badgered by camera

A camera that was installed in the garden of an elderly couple ending up filming a burglary, it has been discovered.

Mr and Mrs Coombes set up a recording system outside their home to record footage of badgers, foxes and other nocturnal animals.

When the couple played back the film to watch the animals, they realised they had videoed images of three robbers who were wanted by police.

David page was later arrested by detectives and was eventually sentenced to four years in prison, after he was found guilty of a string of other house-breaking crimes.

Mr and Mrs Coombes spoke of their surprise at seeing human forms on the videotape.

'We're very glad to be able to help the police — but we'd rather stick to watching badgers and foxes in future,' they added.
