During the festive season, when homes are laden with expensive goodies, homeowners should be on their guard against burglary, claims a leading home insurer.
Last year, around 80,000 households faced misery at Christmastime when their houses were burgled.
With the average person expected to splash out at least £310 on presents, UK consumers should check that their home insurance is up to date and will cover the additional value of these gifts.
Bradford & Bingley (B&B) says that it automatically increases home insurance cover by ten per cent over the Christmas period, so that if burglars were to strike, policyholders' precious belongings will be covered.
Dave Foyle, head of general insurance at B&B, said: 'Christmas is a time for enjoying family, friends and festivities.
'Knowing that you are sufficiently insured should the worst happen means you can enjoy your celebrations stress-free, safe in the knowledge your home and its contents are protected.'
Top tips for protecting your home this festive season include keeping presents out of view, securing all windows and doors and keeping your home insurance up to date.
