Residents in parts of the north-east are recovering this morning after flash floods ruined homes and businesses.
People were rescued from rooftops by helicopters as rivers and streams burst their banks and water levels continued to rise.
After the initial clean-up operation is complete residents will be looking to their home insurance providers to help put things right.
Houses at risk of flooding are notoriously difficult to insure.
This weekend's floods, which come a year after floods devastated the Cornish village of Boscastle, are thought to have been due to freak weather conditions rather than inadequate flood defences.
