Mums and dads are getting ready to spend £6.2 billion on Christmas stocking surprises this year, says a home insurance company.
With children's gifts becoming more high-tech and increasingly expensive every year, Lloyds TSB Insurance is warning consumers to ensure they have adequate home insurance cover.
Thieves realise that the festive period is a time when your home is laden with expensive goodies and experts predict that up to £3.5 million will be stolen from UK properties this year.
According to the insurers poll, the most wished for item from Santa this crimbo is an iPod nano. Other favourite expensive pressies include concert tickets, Playstation PSP's and engagement rings.
Phil Loney, managing director, Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: 'With burglars on the prowl it's doubly important to make sure doors and windows are locked tight whenever your home is empty.
'The cost of Christmas gifts means that at this time of year the value of our home contents can rocket. That's why we're giving all our customers an extra £3,000 of cover at no extra cost during December offering homeowners extra festive peace of mind.'
